FXB USA Partners with Know Violence

FXB USA is eager to announce that as of May 1, 2016, it will serve as a management hub for the Know Violence in Childhood initiative. This partnership will last until July 2017. Given our shared passion for improving children’s lives, we are especially excited to support the Know Violence in Childhood initiative.

Launched in New Delhi in November 2014, Know Violence in Childhood is a time bound initiative that will produce a global flagship report in 2016 on the importance and feasibility of preventing interpersonal violence in childhood. It has been established as a collective response by individuals from multilateral institutions, non-governmental organizations and funding agencies concerned about the global impact of violence in childhood and the lack of investment in effective violence prevention strategies.

It builds on three central premises:

  1. Violence is preventable. Strategies for prevention can help build better lives for boys and girls – optimizing their well-being and their development to adulthood.
  2. Sound evidence and effective communication should inform policy and program strategies – which will help global, regional and national policy-makers focus attention on this major international issue and take effective action.
  3. Countries can learn from each other – exchanging knowledge across national boundaries and transferring experience between different contexts.

Know Violence in Childhood will act on three broad fronts: building evidence and showcasing solutions, engaging leadership, and energizing national, regional and global advocacy.

Know Violence is guided by two global co-chairs, Baroness Vivien Stern, Member, House of Lords, and Dr A. K. Shiva Kumar, Economist and Policy Advisor. The Steering Committee of Know Violence is chaired by Dr Lincoln Chen, President China Medical Board. The other members are Marta Santos Pais, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children (SRSG) and Kathleen Cravero, President Oak Foundation.
