The Boards of Directors as well as the entire FXB International team celebrate the promotion of FXB’s Founder and Honorary President, Albina du Boisrouvray, to the rank of “Officer of the French Legion of Honor”. Highest decoration bestowed in France, the latter rewards the extent and quality of Albina du Boisrouvray’s tireless action in favor of the poor over the past 27 years.
Albina du Boisrouvray is a former journalist and film producer. A personal drama leads her to give up on a successful career to devote herself to the cause of millions of children and women in need all around the world. In 1989, she created the FXB Foundation and International NGO, of which she is now the Honorary President.
She has been involved in the global fight against AIDS and extreme poverty for over 25 years. She is the one who introduced palliative home care in France, which is now part of the national Public Assistance programs.
This year, FXB International celebrates the 25th anniversary of its flagship community development program, the FXBVillage Model, aimed at eradicating extreme poverty. In 1991, the program changed the way development assistance is administered to create lasting impacts and enable vulnerable communities meet their long term needs.
The community development model addresses the five drivers of poverty eradication at the same time and in an integrated way: healthcare; housing; education; nutrition and economic empowerment. Each of these drivers relies on the others to help break the cycle of poverty.
The key innovation of the program is economic empowerment, which helps generate income to go on delivering the other drivers in order to maintain communities out of extreme poverty. As the participating families’ abilities to meet their basic needs increase, FXB gradually lessens financial support to ultimately encourage self-sufficiency.
“Together with the members of the FXB International family, I congratulate our Honorary President for receiving the distinction of ‘Officer of the French Legion of Honor.’ Founder of our organization, Albina du Boisrouvray is and will remain for all of us a model of commitment to the poor, defending the rights of women and children, and constantly innovating in finding the best ways to fight extreme poverty” said Stanislas Pottier, President of FXB France Board of Directors.
FXB International is currently developing its programs in Africa (Niger, Togo, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa …), South America (Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia) and Asia (India, China, Mongolia …) with the strong conviction that investing in children, young people and women is an investment in peace and security in the world.
